Executive Director Spotlight

How would you describe your favorite vacation spot? Would it be the clean room and fresh linens? The wonderful breakfast you had? The friendly and courteous staff who warmly welcomed you? You can probably give little details, not just one, to describe your favorite vacation spot. And that’s how it is at the Rockville Women’s Center (RWC).

In passing the baton to me, Betsy clearly presented RWC’s purpose including the look and feel of the center, the music, and the sincere desire to respect and love each woman the way Christ respects and loves you and me. At RWC, I have joined a team that pays attention to every little detail because life hangs in the balance.

These details make the difference in a woman deciding to have her baby or not.

When a woman shows up for an appointment, a conscious effort is made to have no one walking through our lobby.  She receives the full and prayerful attention of our staff and is given the utmost privacy and confidentiality because life hangs in the balance.

RWC’s Director of Patient Services described the beautiful imagery and the audible heartbeat experienced by a woman during a sonogram. The heartbeat is so slight, yet powerful to hear. At that moment, she prays that no one slams a cabinet door or bursts into laughter from the office nearby, because any sound breaks the intimacy in the showcasing of life. It all happens in 10 seconds!

When something hangs in the balance, nobody knows if it will continue to exist in the future or what will happen to it.  It is in a precarious situation, its future is unsure. That’s why I deeply appreciate your prayers and financial support.  You can help to ’tip the balance’ or ‘tip the scales’ in encouraging women in our communities to choose LIFE.

Please help me spread the word about the services available at RWC. Word of mouth is our best marketing tool.  Thank you for teaming up with me in this ministry.

Have a safe and fun summer!

We all live in a busy world and sometimes it’s hard to simply fulfill one more long-term commitment. So, each month we’ll share five quick and easy things you can do to help save babies and their mothers from abortion. Be sure to watch our list as we highlight new ideas every month!
  1. Mobilize your church to support RWC by organizing a baby bottle campaign! For more information, please email Steffi at [email protected].
  2. Join our Private Facebook Group so you don’t miss out on weekly communication from us!
  3. Tell FIVE friends about the Private Facebook Group! We’d like to grow this month by 10%! Can you help us do that?
  4. Set your Amazon account to support Rockville Women’s Center with every purchase you make through Amazon Smile. It’s really that easy!
  5. Commit to becoming a monthly giver. We can plan so much better when we know how much to budget for each month. Monthly gifts help make that happen!
  6. Donate new diaper bags or new baby clothes 0-3 months for our new moms care packs.
Grace is 19 years old and came to us when she was 7 weeks pregnant. Although her boyfriend of two years was supporting her pregnancy, she knew she wanted to have an abortion. She was nervous and confused and did not want to tell her family about the pregnancy. She came to us to find out how far along she was so she would know which abortion option she would need according to her gestational age.

Grace’s first visit with us was intense and she was not interested in much more than hearing her abortion options. She refused any spiritual conversation but accepted literature that we offered. The sonogram really opened Grace’s eyes and although she was still intending to end her pregnancy, she accepted sonogram pictures and accepted an invitation to come back for a second sonogram.

During Grace’s second visit she seemed a bit more relaxed with our staff. She was willing to listen to a spiritual conversation and spent some time alone in tears. She accepted sonogram pictures again and mentioned that after her last visit with us she thought a lot about her options aside from having an abortion. She was mostly disturbed with the abortion procedure and risks that were discussed, but also mentioned that she made an appointment for her abortion. She was obviously very conflicted and not content with her abortion appointment; for this reason, we offered a third visit and she accepted.

Grace came for her third visit with smiles and met again with an advocate. She mentioned to the advocate that things were better for her and that she talked to her grandmother and father about her pregnancy. She mentioned that they agreed to support her with her pregnancy and that they would help share the news together with her mother. As Grace entered the sonogram room, she was very relaxed and happy to see her baby on the screen. She once again accepted more sonogram pictures and then mentioned that she cancelled her abortion appointment. She was now happy with her decision to carry her baby and she thanked us for the time we spent explaining her options. Her visits with us helped her build the courage to talk with her family and gave her the confidence to make the decision at her will to carry her baby to term. Grace gave out hugs and she left the clinic and promised to keep in touch throughout her pregnancy.

Meet Carol

For the past 8 years, Carol Dourte has faithfully served RWC, as an Abortion Restoration Counselor and most recently as a Family Advocate.

While she works to prevent abortion in the Rockville area, she is also concerned for the many women in the church pews who suffer silently after burying the pain and grief of abortion.  Her heart longs for more women to experience healing after abortion, as she has. She says, “I long to see these women set free to be able to love and live their life to their fullest potential.”

Carol is also passionate about the arts. She loves singing in the Encore Chorale for older adults that culminates in an annual concert at the Kennedy Center. When she’s not serving at RWC, pursuing her passion as a professional artist, or hanging out with her family that she adores, you might just find her on a beach soaking up some warmth and tranquility.

Thank you, Carol, for your heart that claims the hope of restoration for post-abortive women and their families! Your beautiful spirit shines through in all you do!

Our Church of the Month is Derwood Bible Church, a church that is passionate about Jesus and a strong advocate for life.

Senior Pastor Colin Seager is a pro-life powerhouse, both personally (as father of six kids) and professionally.  He eagerly volunteered to have Derwood host RWC’s fundraising galas this fall (mark your calendars and save the dates Oct. 15 and 17!). He once held an impromptu basketball challenge during a church service to motivate donations to RWC. Under his leadership, Derwood also hosts an annual baby bottle campaign for RWC and runs an ongoing Angel Friend Team to come alongside pregnant mothers.

Derwood is filled with many others passionate for life, including RWC board members Tom Kummer and Chee Kin Tang, Maryland Coalition for Life Cofounder Andrew Glenn and several other key RWC supporters.

Thank you so much, Derwood Bible Church, for coming alongside RWC in so many ways!
