Executive Director Spotlight

Did you happen to catch the defeat of the “Born Alive Bill”? Truly stunning! Where have we come as a nation?

Note: if you’re aware of what happened, the “Born Alive Bill” was/is a pro-life bill that requires that any baby born alive after a failed abortion attempt should receive the same medical care and attention that a baby born of the same gestational age would receive.

Seems pretty rational, but obviously not rational enough to convince enough members of Congress to vote for it. On so many levels, the defeat of this bill is simply wrong. Now, technically, this bill had nothing to do with abortion or limiting abortion. However, it did, because it was about recognizing that a newborn baby, despite the choices of the parents or physicians, is still a human being and deserves the same essential rights that every human being deserves.

Fortunately, even if our legislators in DC can’t get it right, the good news is that God does! He sees the value in every child, as do you and millions of others, which is why our work here at RWC is so important. Not only do we unabashedly recognize the value of each child, mother and father, we’re here on the front lines, making sure no mother or father ever has to make the born alive decision.

Because of the support we receive from you and others who celebrate the sanctity of life, we’re able to provide compassionate medical care to women who are struggling with an unintended pregnancy. Our process here respectfully offers them a safe place to individually process what they’re going through—and it works.

Thank you for your continued support, and I sincerely hope you enjoy learning more this month about our volunteers, supporters and clients! We cannot do this without you!

We all live in a busy world and sometimes it’s hard to simply fulfill one more long-term commitment. So, each month we’ll share five quick and easy things you can do to help save babies and their mothers from abortion. Be sure to watch our list as we highlight new ideas every month!
  1. Join our Secret Facebook Group.
  2. Invite your friends via Facebook to join the Secret Facebook Group too!
  3. Set your Amazon account to support Rockville Women’s Center with every purchase you make through Amazon Smile.
  4. Commit to becoming a monthly giver. We can plan so much better when we know how much to budget for each month. Monthly gifts help make that happen!
  5. Pray with us! Text LIFENOW to 94502 to stay up to date on prayer requests and updates about our patients.

Destiny came to us through a Google Adwords campaign seeking an abortion. She made an appointment with us with every intention to abort as soon as possible. Destiny wanted to confirm a positive pregnancy test and have a sonogram to know exactly how far along she was to decide when to schedule her abortion. She had a one year old at home so she felt she could not have another baby at this time.

We learned that the father of the baby was a casual friend and he was supporting and encouraging her to have an abortion as soon as possible.

Counseling went well and Destiny learned of all of her options regarding her pregnancy. She was very receptive to all of the information and resources she was offered. She had a sonogram that revealed a very early pregnancy with a heartbeat. According to Destiny, the sonogram impacted her in a way she was not expecting. She was unexpectedly happy to see the faint flicker of the heartbeat and know the due date. By the end of her appointment, Destiny was smiling and thanking us for our services. She said that she did not know what to expect during her appointment with us, but that we had exceeded her expectations. She left with a complete change of heart wanting to have her baby after seeing the flicker of the heartbeat. She made a follow up appointment hoping to bring family members with her the next visit. Destiny said that she was excited to see the difference in growth on her next sonogram.

Meet Carol!

For nearly a decade, volunteer of the month for March, Carol Cheng, has been serving at Rockville Women’s Center, educating women about their pregnancies and praying for life-affirming decisions. She first heard about our organization through her church, Chinese Bible Church of Maryland, which is a long-time supporter. Carol believes that the mission at RWC provides an excellent opportunity to share the message of Jesus and has eternal significance. We can’t agree more, Carol! It’s truly Kingdom Work!

When Carol isn’t at RWC, you might find her at a local senior center, bringing light to residents there. She loves putting her pro-life beliefs into action by serving both the pre-born and the elderly. What a beautiful example for us all!

Carol’s favorite memory in the center was when a woman came in looking for an abortion. After her appointment, she chose life for her babies— YES, we said BABIES! She discovered that she was carrying twins! She even sent in pictures of her beautiful babies that God saved!

So many miracles take place each and every day at RWC, and we are so thankful to have Carol on our volunteer team to experience them and help us tell the world!

This month we honor Greenridge Baptist Church in Boyds, MD as our RWC Church of the Month.

Under Pastor Tim Simpson’s leadership, Greenridge’s legacy includes decades of commitment to the pro-life cause and support of RWC. Church member Diane Schoolfield runs the church’s baby bottle campaign every year to support RWC.  David and Fran Hill organize the congregation’s participation in the 40 Days for Life campaigns. Even the youth and children’s ministries are involved; we have been invited to speak at the church’s Girls In Action Club tea party in May, which will double as a baby shower to collect items for our moms and babies.

There is a permanent box at Greenridge for the church to donate supplies year-round. Several individuals dedicate great labors of love to this effort, such as Shelli Ritenour making crib-sized quilts and Karen Janes and Sue Overbey making crocheted blankets for carseats.  In addition, the church has been responsive to special requests from RWC, including recently donating several boxes full of English/Spanish Bibles.

We love and appreciate you, Greenridge Baptist!
