From Distress to Relief

From Distress to Relief

Addison was a scared 16-year-old high school student who chose to come to the Rockville Women’s Center (RWC) after walking out of an abortion clinic for the second time. Her mom brought her to the appointment.

Addison came to her initial consultation feeling pressured by the 15-year old father of the baby who felt that he was too young to have a baby. She noted that they were not in a relationship. Addison claimed that although her family would support her to continue with the pregnancy, they were not willing to help her financially. This was added pressure to terminate.

Addison asked that her mother accompany her in the sonogram room to ease her nerves. The sonogram revealed that she was 9 ½ weeks along and had a strong heartbeat. This news seemed to bring on a sense of relief to Addison. She gladly accepted sonogram pictures and mentioned that she wanted to take some time to think about the options offered by RWC. We offered her a follow-up visit, which she accepted.

Addison returned one week later and informed us that she was less stressed and had decided to carry her baby to term. Although the father of the baby made his decision not to support her, her mom and family members were willing to support her through the process. Addison also informed us that she had set up her first appointment with an OB doctor to receive care during her pregnancy. We will continue to follow Addison through her journey.
