Executive Director Spotlight

My guess is that each one of you use Google multiple times each day.  Our potential patients are no different.  The success of our work, His work, depends upon our website appearing at the top of potential patients Google searches.  Make no mistake, we are in the heat of a cyber battle.  Google recently changed its algorithm and our traffic has dropped.  We are working hard with our SEO folks but are fully aware that this is how the evil one tries to thwart our pro-life efforts.

Would you please pray a hedge of protection around our website?  Would you also prayerfully consider making a donation or underwriting a month or more of paid Google searches?  We want to be there for women that need our services!

I also want to let you know of a big change here at RWC. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here at RWC. We’ve made a lot of strides over the past almost three years and have helped a lot of women and babies. However, I’m now entering a season in my “career” as a mother when I feel I need to be home more.  I have a passion for RWC so I will still be around to help and my husband and I will still be financial supporters.  So, I want to thank you for your prayers, your friendship, your giving and for allowing me to share this journey with you of saving lives.

I’m also pleased to announce to you that we’ve hired a new Executive Director, Steffi Benjamin, who will begin her tenure of leading our Rockville Women’s Center in a few weeks, starting June 3rd.  Steffi comes to RWC with a wealth of non-profit experience in development, public policy and advocacy.  She’s worked at the Jubilee Association of Maryland, the National Center for Children and Families and was on staff at the Church of the Redeemer.  Steffi has a Master of Education degree and is a 2017 graduate of Leadership Montgomery.  She lives in Gaithersburg and has twin boys in college.  In addition to all that, she’s also a referee for Pachuca soccer!   Steffi has a heart for the Lord and is eager to lead RWC into this next chapter of encouraging men and women in our communities to choose LIFE!   So, please join me in welcoming Steffi!

We all live in a busy world and sometimes it’s hard to simply fulfill one more long-term commitment. So, each month we’ll share five quick and easy things you can do to help save babies and their mothers from abortion. Be sure to watch our list as we highlight new ideas every month!
  1. Mobilize your church to support RWC by organizing a baby bottle campaign! For more information, please email Jen at [email protected].
  2. Join our Secret Facebook Group so you don’t miss out on weekly communication from us!
  3. Tell FIVE friends about the Secret Facebook Group! We’d like to grow this month by 10%! Can you help us do that?
  4. Set your Amazon account to support Rockville Women’s Center with every purchase you make through Amazon Smile. It’s really that easy!
  5. Commit to becoming a monthly giver. We can plan so much better when we know how much to budget for each month. Monthly gifts help make that happen!
Mariella was 24 yrs. old when she came to us with a surprise pregnancy while on birth control pills. She already had three children with her ex-husband and was not planning to have another child with her new boyfriend at this time. During her visit, Mariella explained that although she loved children, she was considering an abortion and that her parents would support her if she chose to take that route. Although her boyfriend and friends were supporting her having the baby, she was torn with the thought of not having her parents’ support to parent.  Mariella was raised as a Christian but no longer attended church, so abortion was never an option for her previously, but her new circumstance found her to be vulnerable and confused.

Following the session with the advocate, Mariella decided that she really needed to consider this pregnancy more with the creator in mind. When she proceeded to the sono room, she was very excited to see the baby on the screen and asked to take pictures home. It was then that she decided to make the decision based on seeing the baby and how her heart felt to continue with the pregnancy. She was surprised to see how big the baby was and how much it was moving inside of her, although she was not feeling anything. Mariella left feeling less confused and more excited by the end of her appointment.

She later told us that her parents are now on board and that she has full support from her boyfriend and her family and friends including her parents. She is presently 15 weeks into the pregnancy and excited for baby number 4. She expressed how much she appreciated us in a time of great need. She welcomed a conversation about Jesus and was so thankful to be brought back to her roots of trusting in his name. Mariella welcomed the thought of follow up calls from us to follow her on her journey until she delivers her baby.

Meet Cindy

Cindy Saville has been a volunteer with RWC for the past two years. She serves as a Parenting Mentor in our Effective Parenting Program(EPP). The Lord led Cindy to us by way of a ministry fair at her home church, Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD. “ I was looking for a place to volunteer and it just seemed like a good fit to me!” Cindy said.

When asked what her favorite thing about volunteering is, she responded, “It is so gratifying to be able to come alongside our moms and help them grow in their mothering skills and in their confidence as a mom. It is such a joy to be able to express God’s love for them as I’ve been able to talk to and pray for them.” Cindy is a proud grandmother of a two and a half year old granddaughter with whom she loves to spend time. She also enjoys gardening, hiking, biking, walking and Body and Soul Fitness class.

This former ‘homeschooling mom’ is also a former part-time Body and Soul fitness instructor. When asked why she serves at RWC, she responded, “ The EPP at RWC is a great fit for me as an older woman because I get to love on these new moms and share my experience with them. I get to be a friend to them and hopefully, encourage them to come to know Jesus.”

When RWC decided last year to expand our banquet to two nights, finding a church willing to host us twice in one week was a daunting task. Praise God for Fourth Presbyterian, a large EPC church in Bethesda, which accepted the challenge. Church staff and pastors teamed up to provide a large and lovely environment and meals for more than 300 guests over two nights.

Fourth’s support for RWC goes well beyond hosting banquets, however. This year it is sponsoring the rollout of an exciting new online curriculum for our parenting program. The church participates in RWC’s baby bottle campaign, and RWC supporters Bill and Marsha Nickels organize Fourth’s participation in 40 Days for Life. Fourth members have served, or currently serve, in key RWC staff and board and volunteer positions. Kathryn Chamberlin, author of “From Shame to Glory,” has shared essential truths from her book with our staff. Wyatt Hardiman serves as our auditor. Cathie Stanton, Bob Treseler and Jen Biddison serve on our Board.

Thank you, Fourth Presbyterian, for your faithful support of Rockville Women’s Center!
