Executive Director Spotlight

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace,” Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

Advent. The season of waiting. Waiting for the promised Child who would redeem the world. Christ our Lord.

Can you imagine what it meant to the prophet Isaiah and those who were waiting expectantly for the Messiah? What did they do during this time of waiting? How did they remain encouraged and expectant? They turned their eyes and hearts toward God and trusted in His promises. They knew that He would not fail them even if they didn’t know when the fulfillment would come.

Like the people of the Bible, you and I are also waiting for the Messiah’s coming. This Advent season is a reminder to keep the hope of Christ alive in our hearts. No matter what circumstance we face, we can always look to God and trust His faithfulness.

As we move towards Christmas, the meaning of Christmas can often get lost in the frenzy of activities. So I invite you to slow down a bit and think about this promise from Isaiah. What does it mean to you and me? How can we keep the hope of Christmas alive in our hearts?

Let’s take time this season to remember the greatest gift of all – our Savior!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Steffi

Hear from one of our patients!

This month we’re highlighting two of our fabulous volunteers, who we recently welcomed onto the board, Larry Wethje and Holly Sorell.

Larry and his wife, Stephanie, have been supporters of RWC for several years, and he was recently asked to join the board of directors for RWC. He loves the testimonies of the lives changed and babies saved through the efforts of RWC. When asked why he chose to volunteer his time to support the ministry he said, ” I have a desire to help those in a crisis pregnancy, with the hope of saving an unborn child and seeing both the mother and child come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  How rewarding would it be to one day see them in heaven, knowing you played a small part in their eternal destiny.”

Larry, we could not agree more! Thank you for joining our life-saving and life-changing efforts!

Holly has been volunteering as a nurse at RWC for nearly two years. One of the reasons she came to RWC was to support women who may be faced with a crisis pregnancy having to make difficult decisions. She finds that praying with the advocate and sonographer before any patients visit the clinic on Thursday nights one of the most rewarding benefits of being in this ministry. She says, “Each one of us is praying while another team member is prepping for their part of the visit. Calmly presenting medical information, answering questions, providing emotional and spiritual support to encourage these vulnerable women is life changing.”

Holly, having your perspective on our board will be such a blessing to everyone we serve!

Thank you both for giving your time and talents to our ministry!

For approximately eight months, JJ Lusk and his family travelled the country raising support to start a church in the metro-Washington area. Neither JJ nor his wife Lindsay, are from this area, and they didn’t really have any connections here. Their move to metro-Washington was in obedience to God. As JJ said, “God simply made it clear that this was where He wanted us and so we came, and watched Him confirm that leading over and over again.” What faith!

November 2014, Forest Hills Baptist Church began at Fallsmead Elementary School in Rockville and JJ is the Lead Pastor. God rewarded their step of faith by providing a support team before they even arrived.  There were four families who initially found out about them and reached out to be a part of this new church plant. These families helped JJ and Lindsay get things going and soon other families moved to the area and joined the new congregation.

The desire of Forest Hills Baptist Church is to be known for their authentic New Testament Christianity based on a real and active relationship with Jesus and the leadership of His Spirit. They are a congregation whose passion is to grow in their love for God and people through service and taking the gospel to the world beginning here in Rockville.  Visit their website and meet Pastor JJ who shares that they are not perfect or religious. They are real people trying to know and follow Jesus. “I want Christians and non-Christians both to see the Jesus of the Bible and know Him and the life He died for them to have!” declared JJ.

Thank you, Forest Hills Baptist for being in our community and being a partner to RWC.
