“ I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness,” Psalm 7:17

I can hardly believe it’s Thanksgiving!  It seems like only yesterday we were enjoying the warm sunshine and all the activities that come with summer. But now, with this change in the season, it’s a good time for us to pause and reflect on this past year. To celebrate our victories and what we learned from our failures. It is a time to draw near to our loved ones and thank God for their lives. It is also a time for us to reflect on the Giver of life and how richly we have been blessed because He has put His affections upon us.

In my short tenure at RWC, I have seen God move in the hearts and lives of women faced with challenging situations. I have seen God at work through our faithful staff and volunteers who are the hands and feet of Jesus. We have seen the provision of God when we receive a timely donation. We have celebrated when the Spirit of God causes a woman to choose life and we have grieved when others make a different choice. It is those hard moments that we have to look to God for strength and hold tightly to Him as we move forward in hope.

We thank you, dear friend, for your support because it lets us know that we are all in this together. None of what we do here at RWC, will happen without our faithful donors, prayer warriors and ministry partners. My prayer is that you will take time to pause this holiday, and make a list of the people and things for which you are thankful. As you do, may the God of life fill you with hope and joy for this season and beyond.

A Power of Redemption

“Trusting God to multiply diverse communities of people, transformed and empowered by the gospel”, this is the vision of Rock Creek Church, a ministry partner and this month’s church of the month. Rock Creek Church has been a committed partner of RWC for over 10 years providing volunteers, prayer and financial support.  One of the things that we have come to appreciate about them is their commitment to the gospel and people.  The three things that they value as a community are people, life transformation and spiritual multiplication. Their desire to also see a diverse community transformed by the gospel, led them to relaunch and change locations after 40 years of ministering in Derwood.

They are deeply convicted to choose people over programs and to meet people right where they are. This is the work of being on mission for Christ and living lives that are gospel-centric. They moved from being in a building to being a portable church who gathers together at the Cambria Hotel in Rockville. Such a step is not without its challenges, but there is also great reward. This past Sunday was their first Sunday gathering as a portable church. God met them in a special way and they are encouraged to see what is next.

RCC’s commitment to  meet people right where they are is a reminder of how Jesus meets us right where we are. It’s not about behavior modification. It’s simply about reaching people wherever they are on their faith journey and making a connection with Christ and His bride.

Thank you, Pastor Jeff Martin and everyone at Rock Creek Church for your ministry and partnership in the Gospel.  May the Lord continue to guide you along this journey.

Lorena Geddes is one of our treasured volunteers! With Thanksgiving here, it’s easy to name so many current blessings and volunteers top our list. We are so blessed to have volunteers like Lorena who give their time and talents ALL yearlong to the women and babies we serve!

For the past four years, Lorena has been serving the women of Rockville Women’s Center by teaching parenting classes. We recognize that Lorena could be spending time volunteering with several great causes in our area, but she chose us because “this is a place where people in need are helped and unborn babies are saved.”

We couldn’t agree more. Lorena, thank you for making yourself available to serve others!

When Lorena isn’t volunteering, if you could actually catch her, you might find her doing some high-intensity spinning, taking long walks, or lifting weights. She does slow down to enjoy things in life like reading a good book and making time to meditate on God’s Word.

As we count our blessings today, may we remember to be thankful for volunteers like Lorena who make Rockville Women’s Center the thriving organization it is today and ask God to bless our amazing volunteers for their commitment to helping others!
