Kim Mills Volunteer of the Month

Meet Kimberly Mills

Kim Mills a magnetic combination of bubbly and fierceness is our volunteer of the month. Kim has followed us for years but it is only within the last year and a half that she was able to commit to the work. This strong woman of God began serving with Rockville Women’s Center as a Mentor in the Effective Parenting Program in January 2019. Just a few months later that Spring, she served as our Event Coordinator on the Gala Fundraising Team.

Being a part of a church body has always been important to Kim and she currently attends Bridgeway Community Church in Columbia MD.

We recently asked Kim to share with us a good memory of serving with RWC. Here is what she shared.

“It is so hard to pick just one memory! I would say that recently, I was able to connect with one of my Mentees – whom I hadn’t yet met in person due to the quarantine. We were finally able to see each other and speak in person. Even behind her mask, I could feel her smile and hear the gratitude in her voice as we spent just a few minutes together, talking and sharing. The fact that she felt cared for and ‘seen’ during this time of isolation made the difficult adjustment to serving through phone calls that much more precious when we were finally able to meet in person. “

When not serving with RWC, Kim really enjoys being outside hiking, kayaking, swimming, and camping. She also really enjoys taking old furniture and remaking them into something beautiful and useful.

Kim chooses to spend her time at RWC because she believes that every life is precious and she has a passion for helping women do life well. She explains that “Day-to-day living has challenges, especially for single moms. Having someone to come alongside when times are tough, to talk through options, and to point out blessings when we are blinded by circumstances is a gift. It was a gift given to me and I am simply looking to share that gift every time I volunteer.”

Kim wants everyone to know that,

“It is truly a joy to remind women of their worth even as they may be in a season of feeling overwhelmed and anxious. My own life experience has proven that God does indeed make all things new when we turn to Him and allow Him to do what only He can do.”
